I believe that facing your demons and being helped through the solitary, dark place where depression puts you is well within everyone’s grasp. It sometimes takes courage to admit to yourself that you need help but once you step over that line you have nothing to lose and all to gain. Depression is by no means always a psychiatric disorder. It is a normal reaction to certain life events that are traumatic and upsetting.
Counselling for Depression, Anxiety, & OCD
Therapy is a proven method of tackling this state. When you are in a depressed state you experience a myriad of symptoms – sadness and tears, anxiety, worthlessness, poor sleep, increase or loss of appetite and unexplained aches and pains. Your perspective on life and all you do changes over a period of time and can lead to hideous isolation and despair. Feelings of being completely rejected and alone. Sometimes a combined treatment of medication and therapy is extremely effective. Medication isn’t always necessary but a counsellor might suggest a visit to the GP if therapy alone isn’t sufficient.
Part of the depression syndrome is acute anxiety.
Panic attacks are common, although not actually harmful, can be very scary. Overwhelming fear can be effectively treated with counselling – just the very fact that the problems are ‘out there’ and not internalised makes a big difference. Unpicking the problem and the evidence that supports the fears brings huge peace of mind to the client. The old saying of why suffer alone when there is help is never truer than in the counselling room.
